OK, I hope there's not an issue here...Last weekend we had some water in the basement where the wine is stored. The carpet in an ajoining room was ruined, and the whole house, especially the basement stinks of moldy wet clothes. It's getting better now that the carpet is up and out of the house. Question: is there any risk of the corks getting some airborne molds or something else that could damage them or the wine?<P>Thanks

You might loose some labels so keep the Scotch Tape handy. The increase in humidity may do the wines more good than harm.

The labels will also continue to remind you of the incident for months/years to come; they seem to retain that moldy smell forever, so you may need to wipe them down with vinegar and a paper towel. And certainly do so before bringing one of the bottles to the table, or your better half will come after you with a stick! But the wines should be fine.

Great, thanks for the confirmation. Is there such thing as a humidity gauge? I know the temp in the basement is fine year round, but I wonder where the humidity sits in the winter...I know my skin gets dry

You can get a combination temperature/humidity gage at any hardware store or department.
