here we go!
bought this at the winery (in Augusta, Missouri). Pretty good grappa! $18 for 375 ml...
Mostly vignoles, if memory serves, which lends to the fruity, spicy, tropical element on the nose. Fire, but not too much on the back! I'm not a grappa expert by any means. I have two categories: grappa I loathe and grappa I kinda like. This falls in the latter! A good surprise from mid-missouri.

Lived in St. Louis, Kansas City and Columbia but am clueless as to the where-a-bouts of Aususta.(except Ga.) WW

Augusta, MO is an AVA. I've bought and posted on many wines from Mt Pleasant, the largest producer in the area.

yah.. Augusta is West of the 'burbs, about 20 minutes off 40 and 94 in the little dip the Missouri river takes. It was, oddly enough, the first federally approved AVA in the country, 8 months before Napa!

check it:

I've long thought that Mt. Pleasant was the best in the area, but their prices are getting obscene ($35 for their most recent Norton, $50 for the Tawny Port) and Augusta winery and Montelle are getting better and staying afforadable. Montelle's dry vignoles was also worthy of notice.

The area is definitely worth a visit if anyone passes through St. Louis.

Indeed, we'll be passing through in July. Thanks for the heads-up!
