Drew, Foodie, and InnKeeper, 06 Castello Monaci Primativo Piluna is the wine I drank. Its very reasonably priced around $13. Its got that new world fruit forward and polished vs. the standard Italian primativo. This wine was very well put together. The 07 is out right now and I have yet to try it but I will certainly give it a swirl.

More to the point, why drink an Italian wine that tastes like it was produced here?
Not trying to argue with you, but would like to know the motive behind drinking wines that do not taste of their place of origin or general regional style.

Primitivo! It was just a circumstance where I went to a restaurant and the chef recommended that I try something different. In 2000 and 2001, I was on a Zinfandel kick but found Italian primitivo rustic, which really was a testament to my juvenile palate. I'd say that I've since grown fonder of old-world style wines like primitivo, nebbiolo (Barolo) and Tuscan wines mostly because they are super food wines and go great with wild boar, and slow cooked meat dishes.
