For those who are following the wines.com BLOG, I posted one of my favorite classic Mead on Wine columns, which Jerry titled "Gobble Gobble". It was first published in 1999 in his syndicated column and online on this web site. Jerry decided that year to talk about the WineBoard and all the opinions about Thanksgiving wine that were being posted here.

I really enjoyed revisiting this. Hope you do too. Check it out at the bottom of the WINES.COM homepage or click on the link above to the Blog or use this link to the BLOG.

A great read. Thanks Jackie-love. Brings back lots of memories and laughs from the mity Curmy. WW

It was fun to re-read that.

Where is Randy Caparoso? We used to have some heavy discussions back then.

- Kcwhippet - 11-04-2009

Those were the days. Not just Randy came on, but Tom Stevenson showed up periodically - also Roberto Rogness and a few others ITB.

- andrawes76 - 11-04-2009

Do you guys think its worth me making a call out to them to ask for a "reunion" or revival discussion? I'd still very much like to do an "offline"...especially in Arizona inside WW's cellar...hint hint... or NY since I know you guys are mostly NE based. Twood be fun and I'll fly Jackie out there too.

- winoweenie - 11-04-2009

Randy is devoting his full attention to his web-site and Roberto is busy sparring with the idiots on Squires. Haven't heard hide nor hair from Tom for over 2 yars...Looks like Foodster, Kc and moi' have to unfurl the banner of oenophile truth here at the wine board. WW

Jerry invited me to come onto the board right after that shootout. I agreed with Scoop, and met him through Foodie soon afterward. Whatever happened to him?

- hotwine - 11-04-2009

That was a fun read..... I miss those folks, and Bucksnort, too. Always felt like I learned something when reading their posts.

IK,

Scoop--Chris--worked for me part time at is-wine, until I moved on.

He got a wine writing gig in NYC at the NY Law Journal (which, ironically, my father-in-law used to edit).

Since I no longer employ Scoop, he seems to have stopped talking to me Have never heard from him after I left is-wine and have no idea what he's up to these days. His day job was at the U.N.

WW - If you are still in touch with Randy, it would be fun to let him know his name has come up again on the Blog... I'd love to know if he still stands by his wine recommendations, or if he'd select other wines now. Tastes change over time and it has been ten years!

Jackie,

You are so right.

These days, I do enjoy Zinfandel with my turkey more than I enjoy many other wines with it, but it has to be the Zinfandel that is not clobbered by too much alcohol and concentration.

After reading that thread, I thought about how much better it might be to not be so strident about our beliefs, if only so that we aren't kicking ourselves in the behind years later...

Jackie-Love the last time I talked to Randy he acted like he dint have time for the poor relation from Shawnee, Ok. Haven't heard anything that mite give a clue as to his success or failure with his new venture. Hopefully this finds him well. I'll call Buck-Snort this PM and find out how much more paranoid, reclusive, bitter, and bad-tasting his life has become. With his palate could be he's in hiding because of all the nasty juice he gave a solid 90+ to. WW

Howdy from here too Kat.

- VouvrayHead - 11-20-2009

Man, you are all so old. I don't think I was even born when that discussion took place.

Entertaining read, though! That's some lively discussing.

- winoweenie - 11-20-2009

Well I'll be derned ifn' the Kat girl hasn't resurfaced. How's it going young lady? Did the gig in Texas dissapear when the economy faltered? I'll call you when I get back from Rocky Point. XX&OOs'. WW

- Thomas - 11-20-2009

Chittychattykathy,

Where have I heard that name before?
