- hotwine - 02-27-2003 Post Clara Harris term among some local womenfolk for cheatin' husbands.... - Auburnwine - 02-27-2003 Ha! That reminds me of a valid murder defense in the South: "Well, he just needed killin'." - winedope1 - 02-27-2003 hmmm. too bad the idea came too late to help me! (just kidding) - hotwine - 02-28-2003 Sorry 'bout that, WD... - winedope1 - 02-28-2003 thanks, Hotwine. It's not a problem. I'm definitely better off without him and he wasn't worth the jail time. ; ) - hotwine - 02-28-2003 Love it, WD. Hang in there. BTW, in Texas only 20-30 years ago, Mrs. Harris would have walked. A charge might have been presented to the grand jury by the D.A., but they would have no-billed her, and called it justifiable homicide. Still sounds reasonable to me. - zenda2 - 03-01-2003 Saw that judge from Texas Justice discussing the case. He said she might have gotten away with it if it wasn't for her taking a victory lap. - hotwine - 03-01-2003 The 17-year-old stepdaughter who was riding with Mrs. Harris clinched the case. She testified to hearing her stepmom scream, "I'm gonna kill him!" and shouted, "No, no!" and "You've killed my daddy!" Given that testimony, the jury had no choice but to convict on the murder charge. They surprised me with the sentence, though - I figured they'd give her 10 years, suspended on her promise of no more killin'. Instead, they gave her 20 years. Travesty. - winedope1 - 03-01-2003 thanks again, Hotwine. Feel bad about the length of entence too. I already "served" 19 years with him so I've probably done enough time without risking any more. - hotwine - 03-01-2003 That's a pretty big investment.... but sometimes, you've just gotta cut your losses. Been there.... |
