A friend of mine has picked up work at an Italian restaurant in Old Montreal. There is(in addition to the new-job-jitters) concern that she will be singled out for her lack of wine knowledge. I want to avoid overwhelming her with information - especially as she's alredy 'on the floor'. Has anyone a suggestion for an appropriate starting point...Thanks

Have her get the book Wine for Dummies. Its easy to read and will giver a solid base to work from.

Where are you two located? We may be able to scrounge up info on a wine tasting class that would help out greatly.

Another thing, if this is a good restaurant that features wine, they should have some sort of program to teach their employees about the wines they carry.

Yes, thank you, I will suggest this...and yes, i agree this restaurant should proactively encourage thier staff to look at as many wines as possible. I'm interested to see what progress reports reveal.

Tilak, do you know the name and address of the restaurant? We are going to be up there the third week in May.

The ever-expanding reach of Big Bob strikes again. WW

WW, should I be concerned?

Sorry Tilak, I was just making a funny. The name of the bar and restaurant is the same but spelled differently than our patron wine saint Robert Mondavi. WW

Ahhh, who's the goose?! Thank you for enlightening this witless Aussie. I've fond memories of St.Bob's '87 Res. Cabernets. This was magnum in volume as well as character.

According to a flurry of stories in the Wine Press today, Big Bob has stepped down. Quite a man.

Ah Yes IK but .....He's left the legacy in TWO capable hands. WW ( Now he and Margrit can boogie till the dawns' early cabernet.) And you're rite Tilak, His 87 Reserve was and still is a spectacular bottle. His 94 is at the same level.
