I asked WW earlier if he was familiar with Dyer Diamond Mountain Cabernet and he hadn't tried it. I went ahead and ordered a bottle at about $60 from Carolina Wine Company. They are still offering the 2004 vintage at $59.99. Here is part of what the ad says:
"Not only is this the best California Cabernet in the store (and that includes some which have huge ratings and sell for $150 - plus!). It also won a tasting of "Napa's Top 100 Mountain Wines" recently - over the likes of Diamond Creek, Shafer Hillside and Pride Reserve! As Matt Kramer said in his excellent book "New California Wine": "Simply put, this is a great Cabernet. Quantity is obviously minute, quality superb. If you can find it, buy it."
I still haven't tried it so this could be hype but it sounds like a good price for a wine that might compete with Diamond Creek and Shafer Hillside.

Tankee berry much there sweet WOW! Will have to see where in the devil their vineyards are on the mity Diamond. Know every nook, cranny, and scrub-brush of this gorgeous mountain. Will look and see if I can find this hummer. WW

Dyer is owned by Bill and Dawnine Dyer. She used to be the winemaker at Domaine Chandon and now makes the Cab (their only wine) from fruit they planted in the Diamond Mt. District back in 1993.

Had a wine friend in CA tell me the Dyer is a good $30 bottle of wine -- that's all I needed to hear.

Jane, I had the 1997, and if the mind hasn't gone south, I believe I paid about $30. It was OK but, as Bucko says, I don't think it was worth what they wanted (in today's dollars). Now, if you want a wine that is worth the money, IMNSHO, latch on to some Lewelling.

KC and all. Any of you have any experience with the 2004 Prevail "West Face", a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Syrah?

I know of it, but have never had it. We don't carry it. The distributor lists it at $29 retail. There's also a PreVail "Back Forty" that goes for $85 and is 100% Cab.
