If Roberto and Foodie think the wine trade is rough they should try it here: http://www.rediff.com/news/2003/jan/06mukh.htm

IK, that is a tough business!

You know, the Koran's message about wine (at least in the translations I have read) does not outright ban alcohol--it discourages its use.

And while Islam spread across continents the Koran promised milk, honey, wine and women to those who died in the faith; poems by Hafiz and Khayam (sp) mention the joys of wine; the Moors perfected brandy distillation; and on and on.

Wasn't it Omar Khayam who came up with the great quote "A loaf of bread, a jug of wine and thou." I think it may have been in the Rubbiyat.

Yep, a sentiment found in many writings, in many forms.

I tried that strategy with an ice queen sorority girl when I was in college.

Oh, sorry, I thought you said: "A loaf of bread, a jug of wine, and THAW."

I may be getting up there, but on the weekend after a really good dinner and bread and wine, I still like to ask my wife to pass the thou. Usually works, too.
