I recently found a 1983 vintage Chateau St. Louis (Napa Valley, CA) Cabernet Sauvignon bottle in our attic. Is this wine drinkable? Valuable? If drinkable, I'd like to surprise my wife with it on our anniversary. Please let me know. Thanks!

Hi dkahler and welcome to the board. Never heard os Ch St. Louis. Look on the lable and find the sentance " Produced and bottled by " aand post the findings. Very doubtful if drinkable as 83 was a difficult year in Napa. Valuable? No. One way to find out is to open that hummer. Produced and bottled by Rutherford Vintners, Rutherford, CA...

I wouldn't recommend counting on it to be a good surprise for your wife... have another bottle available just in case.

Now I'll say, think SALAD!! WW

Pop this stuff open, find a good mother and a wooden cask and make vinegar.......

That's what WW said, I'm certain.

You found this bottle in the attic?

It has got to be cooked, I would think.

Aside from using it to make salad dressing you might consider calling the EPA for disposal instructions.

Popped it open...fwew! Thanks for the heads up...I'll go find a new bottle for the anniversary...any suggestions for a wine that would please both a semi-experienced wine drinker and a novice? Accompanying cheese? Thanks again!

What kind of cheese?

Generally speaking:

Soft, buttery cheeses - Chablis, Chardonnay, Champagne

Hard cheeses - Zinfandel, Chianti, Shiraz, Cotes du Rhone, etc......
