Took off for the weekend in New York. (just got back). We live so close yet take so very little advantage of this.

So SO and I drove down Saturday morning. We stayed at the Intercontinental on 48th and Park but had totally forgotten that this was baseball's all star weekend. We stayed in the same place as MANY of the legends and players. It was great to see Lasorda at what...71..smoking outside and mouthing off to the kids that were trying to sneak into line..... it was funny!!

We took advantage of the corkage and took in tow with us an NV Krug Brut which was fantastic. I wish I could afford more of these wines. I tasted their 96 as it was incredible.

The restaurant was Eleven Madison Park near 24th and Madison. We had the 11 course tasting menu which was simply incredible. The first course was a potato ice cream and caviar.... The match of the night though was the Krug with the Butter pouched lobster with bacon infused cream and many other things I could not remember. Absolutely incredible with the Champagne. After the champagne was finished, we had a 1/2 bottle of the 2006 Alain Graillot Croze Hermitage....definitely on the young side but worked great with the lamb.

What I liked about the wine list in this place (take a look at it yourself on line) was that even though the youhad your typical deep three and four digit winess, there were plenty of $40 to $100 bottles that were great drinking. Ken Wright 1/2 bottles for $50, JJ Prum 06 WS kabinetts for $60, Reserve du Vatican for $70, etc, etc,.. Good values all over the place and then enough trophy bottles for those wall street tycoons that were all around us at dinner time... Really nice place, great service and I would go back again any time. BTW, the taster's menu is not for the faint of heart. The services are almost full size appetizer services. I had EXTREME difficulty trying to finish. This was well worth the entry price and many places that charge more (i.e. Susur's) would have difficulty justifying the premium when you consider the entire package. Very nice!

Great weekend, spent some time with the SOHO street artists (and some who were more..umm...concept borrowers...). Went on an extended walk of central park this time, and the second floor of Tiffany's....you might need to bring the deed to your house....and a few neighbours as well....

Au Contraire there Eng. It's always a pleasure to put a face on someone you've only had the opportunity of correasponding with. Imagine my surprise at the FL offline at putting my vision of Thomas at 6'4" and the actual body that showed up. And IK and lovely Bev made no correlation to my imigination. And the gorgeous teach was completely opposite to the stern school-marm I imagined. Most perplexing tho was trying to figure out how the lovely Judy could deign to mate with KC. She's brite, witty, sweet and lovely and KC is.... he's there . Would love to make your actual acquaintence ENG as it's obvious you are a very brite and complex person. Will make some solid choices in the next few months. WW

I was walking on my knees just to fool you, WW.

If you do come to the promised land, I'll show you what someone your size can do to someone your size...and age.

Make it spring--May. October and May are the best months to visit NY City.

If I'm in an expansive mood, maybe I'll invite the East Coast crowd over for a picnic on my property--tents and stay-overs, and all that childish stuff. Lots a wine to make it adult.

We've done a lot with the place since your last visit (the remodeled kitchen is operating fine). Just last week, Anne and I finished assembling a greenhouse. We intend to grow vegetables in winter, and add to my fig trees, some citrus (the first citrus isn't looking too good right now )

And why would Buck-i-poo intimate your less than gracious? Tankee berry, berry much for the kind offer and as we get closer to making plans I'll call and we'll have our usual hi-tec, stratisfied conservation. WW
