Has something to do with getting off your cookies.

- Drew - 03-13-2001

LOL ...IK's right WW, you gotta get your cookies off, reset your preferences and restart your new machine.

Actually you want to click on the box that says: "Accept Cookies."

- winoweenie - 03-13-2001

OK youse'all. Now jes' where in the blue blazes do I find this clicker? WW

- hotwine - 03-13-2001

WW, it's kinda tricky. The following is predicated on your use of Microsoft Internet
Explorer as your browser; Netscape's a little different.

In Internet Explorer, choose Tools at the top of the display, then Internet Options, then Security. Then choose the Internet button, then click on Custom Level. Then scroll down the grocery list to Cookies, and select the second option, which is Enable. Then click OK.

That should do it.

Don't know what browser you're using, but most are somewhat similar. Here's how Netscape works. First click on Edit. Click on Preferences (at the bottom). On the left will be Categories. Click on Advanced (at the bottom). The bottom half of Advanced deals with Cookies. Click on Accept Cookies. If Accept Cookies already has an "x" in it, you have a different problem.

- hotwine - 03-14-2001

WW, have you rebooted since making any changes to those settings? If you haven't, they may not have taken effect yet.....

- Drew - 03-14-2001

You gotta re-boot!!!

Drew

- winoweenie - 03-16-2001

I've put the machine on snooze and re-started it. Do this count? WW

- hotwine - 03-16-2001

WW, putting it on snooze isn't the same as rebooting. You need to do a cold reboot: close out all open programs, exit Windows gracefully, and shut the machine down - either by choosing "shut down" from the windowshade options menu that includes "standby", or hitting the power switch on the PC. After doing that, wait a couple of minutes before turning the machine back on, to make sure your hard drive and OS have stabilized. Then when it comes back up, you should see that the cookie change has taken effect.

I'm still on yellow alert. I've got my son-in-law the espert comin' over to set up some programs so I'll let him re-tire or what-ever whilst he be here. Tanks from wino-computer-illiterate-weenie.

Just like a horse can find it's way back to the barn when it's rider has had too much wine to drink, it sounds like you need to train your new computer to do the same....

WW, Welcome to the fast world of @home!
Keep in mind though, if your running on Windows you will never "truely" be free!!!

The new machine has windows ME and seems to work fairly well. Much faster than my lil' fat-fingers can move. Love it so far. WW
