Did you ever get into my Maple Syrup? I may not be able to work the grapes, but I've gotten good reviews on my Maple abilities.

(For those of you wondering what the heck GAD's talking about, I sent Verne some of my first "vintage" Maple Syrup I made last spring as a thank you for his honeymoon planning.)

Well Bucko, I figured there was no wine on the planet that he would want and not have. I had to come up with another way to say thanks. So, I sent him something I knew he would have never tasted before. (Not many people have as I only made about 8 gallons over an open wood fire.)

Non wine is definitely the way to go for someone that has just about everything - by the case. I sent the Weener a jar of my home grown horseradish last year. I'm going to leave the roots in the ground for a few more good freezes this year so it will develop some really good heat.

And not to toot my own horn or anything, but it takes 40 gallons of sap to boil down to 1 gallon of syrup. [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img] My wife thought I was nuts. My father told me he would go to the grocery store and buy me all I wanted for $10 a quart...

GAD, You would have liked where my wife grew up out in the Berkshires. On her folks property was a huge maple that was a witness tree and shows up on town maps as far back as 1731. Her dad used to be able to get 14 sap buckets around it. Unfortunately, the idiots who bought the property from my mother-in-law a few years ago cut the tree down. There was no reason to do so because this is a 20+ acre property and the tree was just in from the edge of the land about 100 yards back from the street.

Okie-Dokie GAD this AM I'm throwing my South Beach down the terlit and making Belgium Waffles and a side of Maple-Smoked Sausages from a super German sausage schlepper here in Phoenix. Naturally this will be accompanied by a "Breakfast of Champions" beverage which I haven't pulled yet. I intend to name the 4 extra lbs after youse. WW

ALRIGHT GAD you're on CBs' hit-list. After opening a bottle of Duval Leroy "Cuvee Paris" and putting the sausages on the stove I started the waffle-maker. Down the terlit went me South Beach and of course CBs' followed in rapid order. As the iron heated the bubbly cooled and all suddenly was keen. Peeling the 1st BW oofn' the grill I split it with CB, gave her some grilled saus, and of course poured another glass of bubbly. Our conversation was nil for the next 30 minutes. Ratings are as follows....Duval. 91/90 33 by the box. Sausages 88/88 3.99 lb. Waffles 88/?(memory agin) Maplely Syurpy stuff-n-such. 106/273. WW

As good as that elixer was My tired ole bod' can probably only take it once a year. I've found I have to make some hard decisions about what to priortize at the table and wine has been designated my primary indulgance.WW (by-the I put on 2&1/2 lbs for my transgression.
