I have a 1973 Chateau Poyferre St. Julien Was 1973 a good year for bourdeaux in that region? I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know.
I also have a 1973 Chateau Magdeline if anyone can shed some light on this wine I'd be grateful.

Foxwine, Welcome to the board. Don`t know who is unloading all this 73 Bordeaux PLONK on the market but yours must be the 5 or 6th in the last few days. 73 was a year that was supposed to produce some marvelous wines after 2 disasterous vintages. On release there were some wines that showed promise early on but as the wines matured, the huge crop showed the effects of the frequent heavy rains during the October Harvest. You are the proud owner of some high-priced vinegar Sorry Winoweenie

winoweenie,
Thanks so much for the info on the Chateau Poyferre.
Thank goodness it was a gift so no worries about the vinegar part. I have had it for awhile so I guess it is just coincidence that it has shown up lately. Too bad that 73 turned out to be such a bad year after two already dissapointing harvest years. That may be why so much of it has turned up.
Again, thanks for your reply.
