Most of us don't live in the main auction centers of NYC, Chicago and LA so I've never been able to go to any of these. I've been lucky enough to go and visit a few of the Napa Valley Vitners auctions jsut for the helluvit but obviously can't afford the wines there (I'm generally the guy who puts up his paddle first and then has to sit out of the rest of the proceedings.....).

Next week Friday, Skinner is going to have a wine auction in Boston (14th at 6:00pm). Anyone here from the MA side going to take a peak? Small auction, single day 216 lots with some tiny reserves (based on the slight high estimates of some of these wines.) Small, compared to the one in Toronto on October 11-14th in Toronto with over 2700 lots and a 340+ catalogue.....

I took a look at the catalog. I'm not big into French wine so that eliminates most of the lots. The rest is really old stuff - 30 yo Cabs, etc. I didn't see much I'd be interested in. Besides that, the prices are really high and they top it off with a 19 1/2% buyer's premium. I think I'll pass on this one.

Yeah...I thought that the premium was a bit high too.....19.5%
