Oh my oh my oh my....I can't believe that I am now into the Cabernet Sauvignons...well had this lovely and delightful cabernet last night and it was just delish...and this label, the [yellow tail] is a winner both in taste and price ($7 -8). It's a steal and you all should try it. Nice full body and a really soft smooth finish. One glass just won't do. The vanilla oak midway is so creamy and just flows on the palate. Do check it out. Here I am a few months later moving up the chains and going from the sweet reds and white and now enjoy the abode of a nice cabernet sauvig. [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img] And the beat goes on... Comments and recommendations always enjoyed as usual.

Thanks for your reply Bern and please remember to come back and give me your feedback after tasting...another thing...if you enjoy the cabernet sauvigs, please give me the name of say 3 that you give your highest ratings to thus far, so that I can sample same. Also, please focus on price range up to a max of $20. This [yellow tail] has really left me wanting a case in house as 1 bottle goes so fast [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img], so be it then. Thanks Bern. Kaz PS... Same applies to all you sauvig experts on this wineboard also. My Dad had an awesome cabernet (Wente label) and loved it...anyone knows of it???

My favorites, all under $20 are as follows:
1. Hess
2. J. Lohr
3. Liberty School
4. Scenario
All of these are great! Not too much oak either. If you like a lot of oak, then try Sebastiani or Rodney Strong.

I would second Hess and add Simi (Sonoma County) and Robert Mondavi Napa Cabernet Sauvignon (not the Central Coast C.S.)
From Australia, Paringa Shiraz is another inexpensive winner that usually shines in any vintage.

i would second liberty school and add chateau ste. michelle's upper level vineyards-- canoe ridge and cold creek...
around $20 for those. liberty school is cheaper. on the light side for a cab, but the flavors are very nicely aligned [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img]

I just opened a bottle of the 2003 Yellow Tail Cabernet Sauvignon, and I have to say, this tastes like a more expensive wine. This is most likely going to be my "goto" cab when I'm strapped! [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/wink.gif[/img]
Nice tart cherries, a little oak, great balance and quite a bit of body. It even has a nice medium length finish. I give it 89 BK.

But I may have to ditch the cabernets as the next day my BP went overboard and I tried the wine again to see if that was maybe the cause and sure thing...my 'delicate' lol body cannot handle the cabs (this was my first try at them), so I am back into the softer sweeter reds and whites...what a bummer, but oh well...
On a footnote, somehow my password is not working on my old name Kazual, and I did change my email address...so I had to create a new name, anyone knows how I can retrieve my old name etc??? Please do tell. Thanks

I just opened a 2004 YT CS last night and have to say that I was pretty impressed. Maybe it's designed to appeal to yokels like me, but if so, it worked.

Funny you should mention that...
I was just talking to a friend of mine who grew up around wine (her dad's the head winemaker at a prominent BC winery) and told her I had picked a bottle up.
She said that I should expect it to taste like Pepsi! I can't wait, haha.
