I received a bottle of 1988 Pinot Noir, Zaca Mesa, Santa Barbara County. Is it good?

You bet!

I thought this post would be about the weather. You know, El Ninot Noir!

A fine product--fear not.

1988 may be pushing the limits for a S.B. Pinot Noir, even if properly stored. 1988 was also a poor vintage year for CA. I would pull the cork soon.

The last time we got to ZM was in '86. Tasted current vintage Pinot then (probably '84). Distictly remember it being as close to a "big" Pinot as Pinot can get. However, if Bucko is right about the '88, and he usually is, the advice to pull the cork is warranted. Under the circumstances it might be a good idea to have something of known quality standing by in reserve.
