There was a sale the other day and they offered "Eagle Hawk - Merlot" (1996). I didn't buy it, because I was wondering if this wine is still drinkable. Is it? They sold the same wine, but the 1998 vintage more expensive.

Current vintages should be around $10 U.S. It is an Australian Brand not distributed in our country. If reasonably well made, the '96 should be fine. It is common to see white wines moved out for more current vintages, but sometimes you see it for reds too. In the latter case it is time for bargains.

Thanks Innkeeper! Maybe I'll get a bottle if they still have it on sale. I like Merlot.

Save your money. There is no reason why this wine on the shelf should still be good to drink.

Sure, it still might be drinkable, but any qualities it had to recommend it will be done by now.

This is an 8 year old first rung Oz Merlot. I wouldn't buy any Oz Merlot older than 2000 vintage.

ok - I see (havn't bought it yet). Thanks!

Stupid question... What's an Oz merlot?

- Innkeeper - 06-21-2004

A wine made out of Merlot grapes that comes from Australia (Oz).
