Hey board, newbie here.
I always thaough it was my family, but I am starting to see this happening elsewhere, italian movies, Sopranos, etc...
Instead of drinking wine out of a proper wine glass, a small highball glass or collins glass is used. My Italian family members only drink wine from these (2nd gen americans), and even the polish side of my family (2nd geners as well) use these "jelly jar" glasses.
What gives? Do different cultures use non-stemmed wine glases, or is this an economic trait (are they really jelly jars)?

Hi Reno Wino, and welcome to the Wine Board. It is either poor house retro or cutting edge modern. It is quite stylish these days to get stemless wine glasses at the same price or more for what you pay for other quality stems.

Reno,

In many parts of Italy wine is consumed out of all kinds of non wine glasses.
