HI. This may be completely ridiculous, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me or let me know how to find out the BASICS of wines. The different types of red and white wines and the main qualities to look for in a good wine. All I know is that there are reds and whites and that I like wine! I'd like to know more, but need to start at the very beginning. Thank you! ~Mindy

The "Complete Idiot's Guide To Wine" , or "Wine For Dummies" is a good place to start, and have been recommended here by others in the past. I liked "Windows on the World Complete Wine Course" by Kevin Zraly. There is a lot of info out there. Welcome to the board and good luck!

Good advice. Additionally you can use the "Search" function on this Board to get the answer to almost any question you may have. Two additional "reads" are: "Essential Tips 101 - Wine", by Tom Stevenson. It is available at www.amazon.com . Also Wine & Spirits Magazine recently published a special edition called: "Guide to Wine Styles." It is a comprehensive review of the world's wines by style that is wonderful for both beginners and non-beginners. You can get that edition from them by calling: 888-695-4660.
