I have been given some wine from a fine cellar following the death of the owner.
One bottle has lost it's label, can anyone help identify it. Is it worth drinking
The bottle has RECOLOTE 1983 on the neck and i can make out Joseph Controllee on whats left of the label.

Many Thanks

Welcome to the board. Sounds like a 1983 bottling from the St Joseph AOC in the northern Rhone between Condrieu and Cornas. Quality is impossible to judge without knowing the producer, and was spotty at best in that district, according to Larousse; only recently has it been improving as producers move their vines from the flats to the hillsides. Suggest you pull the cork and enjoy with beef and green veggies (and have another Rhone on standby as a spare in the event that one is history).
