I am a wine novice and I know I like Merlot. I have only purchased Bolla, because it was recommended by my sister-in-law. However I was wondering if you could recommend a few different "brands" that are below $15. Keep in mind that I only recently started to drink red wine, so be gentle.

Hi Deirdre, and welcome to the Wine Board. The only two from California that I would recommend are Bogle and Blackstone. Better than the Bolla IMHO are any of the merlots from the Collio Region of Italy. There are some in your price range. Hopefully the wonderful PA ABC stores will have them.

You might also try Falesco Merlot from Umbria, Italy. It was only about $15 a bottle a couple years ago when I first tried it but may have gone up a few dollars since then. I second the recommendation on Bogle and like the Blackstone Napa Merlot better than the Blackstone California Merlot (the Napa Valley wine is a few dollars more).
