I am involved in a community fundraiser and love wines. Some friends have offered to donate two wines from California
a 1985 Mondavi Cabernet Savignon
and a 1993 Vichon Syrah
are these drinkable? and if I enter them in a silent auction with a minimum bid of $20 for the Mondavi and $15 for the Vichon, is this too much, too little or about right?
the fundraiser is for a very good cause and we would like to give the buyer a good deal and help the cause at the same time.

Lizajane welcome to the Wine Board. In my humble opinion you should ask your friends the very same questions.
If your friends have properly cellared the wines, then there is no reason why they should not be drinkable, although the Mondavi might be past its prime.
I think the prices you mention are reasonable.

Oh Lil` Liza Little Liza Jane...OOPS! My Okie heritage is showing. If the Mondavi is th 85 NAPA bottling and as the mity MrD points out the provneance be okie-dokie this wine should be at or near its peak.The prices are VERY resonable. And oh verily, WELCOME to the Board. winoweenie

Thanks for your help, Mr. Dutton and winoweenie. The bottle is Napa Valley Cabernet Savignon, 85. I'll check on how it has been cared for.
