i normally keep wine stored in my cold garage. is this bad for the wine? also, if i take a bottle out of the garage and bring it in the house, but never use it, is it okay to put it back in the garage?
someone had mentioned to me that wine can freeze. is this so?

Hi Trkennard, and welcome to the Wine Board. Prolonged cold can be detrimental to wine. Recommend taking them inside and down the cellar if you have one. Wine can get very cold, but once it freezes it is damaged considerably. If you have no cellar, do you have a cool place that does not freeze inside the house? That would be the best place.

Having said all this. Heat is much more damaging to wine than cold.

Innkeeper,

How about buying a small picnic cooler from walmart and using that to store the wine....not only will it keep it cool but keep light away from it as well!
just a thought.

=)

This would only work for a few bottles for a short time. They would have to be cooled to the proper temperature or below. Eventally the cooler will warm up to room tempeature unless you keep adding cool packets or ice. If it was left in the garage, the wine would eventually get to the freezing temperature. Not an ideal storage unit.
