Ok... lets make this simple. I want to buy a nice bottle of wine for my first time. I'm willing to spend $30-$50. What do you recommend? I live in L.A. if that matters. Thank you.

PS..... or if any combination of wines for me to try at that price. That would be great as well. Thank you.

Hi Tequila,

Welcome to the board. For that price range you cannot beat a 1999 Joseph Phelps Cabernet. I just found some for $34 here in NYC, though retail is around $40. Very fruit forward and drinking very well now, but will keep for several years if you're so inclined.

FWIW, Wine Spectator ranks it a 92. But having drunk it myself, I'll say it's simply a real lip-smacker that'll put a big smile on your face and whomever you're with.

If I were thee and wanted the best wine and the best value for my Grant, would beat feet over to Wine Expo on Santa Monica Blvd and consult the resident elf there.

Second IKs' reccomendation. If you can't make that trip another cherce be Pine Ridge Rutherford cabernet. At 30 a real buy. WW
