I am very new to the wine thing & am looking for a wine with a sweeter flavor, like in an Asti Spumanti. It seems most I try are very dry. Any suggestions?

Dear JSS,

Welcome to the Wine Board.

It's been while but as I recall "Soave Bolla" is a sweeter wine that is avilable almost anywhere. White Zinfandel is also a fairly sweet blush wine that many people enjoy, who are new to drinking wine. The Sutter Home White Zinfandel is a good label to start with. Both of these wines are under $10.00 a bottle. A sweet Johannisberg Riesling would also be good to try.

You would also enjoy many dessert wines, like Muscat, Muscat Canelli, or a Banyuls from the South of France.

For suggestions on brands and prices, see the results of this year's New World International Wine Competition on this website at:
http://wines.com/nwiwc/

Or just go to our homepage -- www.wines.com -- and look for the link to Jerry Mead's NWIWC 2002.

Check out the categories for dessert wines, muscat, and Riesling. Note the percentages of residual sugar. The higher the number, the sweeter the wine will be. You'll find which wines were judged best within their respective categories.

Cheers!!

Jackie
