In February I had the perfect dessert wine (for my sweet tooth) at the Hyatt's Compass Restaurant in Phoenix (great place!).

I had a wine from the dessert wine list. It was red and was named something along the lines of Muscata. I called the restaurant for the name but it's no longer on their list.

I began searching the net and saw a Muscata d'asti but it turns out that is a sparkling white wine so I am continuing my search.

Would you have any idea what the actual name of this wine is?

Hi Starr, and welcome to the Wine Board. This one has me puzzled, but perhaps not others. The only red dessert one starting with M that I know of off hand is Maury which is a wonderful fortified late harvest Grenache from the South of France.

Another possiblity is that it is like the company name of a Port or other dessert wine.

Muscat is usually a white grape, often used to make fortified dessert (white) wine. However, there is also a red grape, sometimes used to make a fortified wine. I have never had it though. I understand that some Muscat de Frontignan wines (a Languedoc wine, South of France) are red. Also, I searched the net and a producer called Avondale from South Africa seems to make one.

Could it have been a black muscat, like Quady's Elysium? Despite the name, which might suggest "black" in the glass for some people, it's a deep reddish color.

Thanks for the welcome and thanks even more for the responses. I will give those a try and definitely let you know how it goes.
