- curious - 02-03-2003 Wineowinne, you live here in this area, could you recommend a good wine store? I want to pick up some bubbly to celebrate, but don't know where to go to get a good choice at a good price. Also, what would be a good bubbly? Something sweet, not dry, at at a decent price, no more than $20. Thanks Janette - wondersofwine - 02-03-2003 Bubbly is not my area of expertise (if I have an area of expertise which is questionable). The only wine shop per se in Fayetteville is Bob's wine shop on Raeford Road not far from Harris-Teeter grocery store. Grocery stores also sell wine and Harris-Teeter and Winn-Dixie have pretty wide selections. Your daughter and son-in-law probably have Class VI privileges on post but that may not get you in to make a purchase. Most of these may cost $30-$40. Class VI would avoid the taxes if you gave money to your son-in-law to make the purchase. Some past recommendations from the Champagne and sparklers thread: Non-vintage (NV) Chandon Rose Sparkling Wine (I have had and liked this one and it is not too dry in taste) (California) Egly-Ouriet Rose Billicart-Salmon Rose (this sounds like one I would like and you might like) Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Noir (California) These are mostly blends of pinot noir and chardonnay grapes--I like the pinot noir addition but if you prefer from white grapes only, then don't go for the rose sparklers [This message has been edited by wondersofwine (edited 02-03-2003).] - winoweenie - 02-03-2003 Hi Curious. In case you were adressing Moi' (Winoweenie) you're geography needs updating. Phoenix, Az 'haint very close to Ohio, Mich, Ind, or Ill. My area of expertise lies mainly in Reds. I Drink bubbly 4-6 times a year and seek advice me-very-own-self. WW - Thomas - 02-03-2003 Nobody asked wondersofwine how it feels to be mistaken for winoweenie,,,which I am sure feels strange... - winoweenie - 02-04-2003 NOW ISN'T THAT sweet. ww - wondersofwine - 02-04-2003 It'd be okay if Winoweenie's wine cellar came with it! - Thomas - 02-04-2003 I have it on good authority that ww has no wine cellar--he can't seem to stop opening the bottles. But he does have a stash of sw he has yet to get around to... - wondersofwine - 02-04-2003 I could take some of that off his hands. - Drew - 02-04-2003 There once was a man from Phoenix Who bought and used cases of Kleenex But why did he cry? Well his wine cellar went dry and it's due to his drinking, me thinks! Drew - winoweenie - 02-04-2003 A copper from Maryland once said, " I'll drink good wine 'till I drop dead", He made good on his vow, You'll discover him now, Esconsed under flowers of red. - Thomas - 02-04-2003 Good grief, these guys is limerickists. Talent comes in all forms. Me, I'm just a lyricist, with songs of love to oak bormbs. (Had to get a rhyme somehow) [This message has been edited by foodie (edited 02-04-2003).] - Drew - 02-05-2003 Bravo, Verne, Bravo. But Foodie, BORMBS? Drew - Kcwhippet - 02-05-2003 And he edited the message, too. I thought I was the only one who did that. - wondersofwine - 02-05-2003 There was a wine board on the 'net Where lots of advice one could get But along with the info The insults would flow All in good sport I would bet. - wondersofwine - 02-05-2003 Question to Foodie: Are you a lover of oak bombs? I was thinking you were in the "less oak" camp. - Thomas - 02-05-2003 I hate oak bombs, which was the irony in my limerick; the fact I spelled it "bormb" was to rhyme with form because--well, if I have to explain it, I did a bad job in the first place when I wrote it. - ShortWiner - 02-05-2003 Foodie's tribute to oak: There once was a wine over-oaky The label said "butter" and "smoky" Foodie called "just painfull" And added a handfull Of garlic to eat with his gnocci Been enjoying your book - curious - 02-06-2003 okay guys, so I can't keep names straight as to which poster it goes with, at least I didn't call call him a she. Of course, on here, it can be a guessing game as to the gender of each poster <BG>. Sorry for the confusion, but at least it seem to have given you all a chance to have some fun. Glad of that, so long as I didn't insult anyone. As for son-in-law being able to buy, he is only 20, so he can't purchase alcohol, so it will have to be me at a local store. I will look for what has been suggested. Thanks for the help, all, On a sad note, he just got the news last night that he will be shipping out at the end of the month, they won't tell him where he is going, will be anounced on the plane. Janette - hotwine - 02-06-2003 We wish him Godspeed. There are a bunch of us on this board who have been there, done that. Be grateful he's been given the opportunity to serve his family and neighbors. - wondersofwine - 02-06-2003 I'm glad he was there for the birth. I will keep the family in my prayers if you want to share his first name with us. |
