I'd like to do a good wine course for beginners in Manhatten, NY. Does anyone have any recommendations?

There is a wine course given at WINDOWS ON THE WORLD, at the World Trade Center, in Manhatten. Its taught by Kevin Zraly. I took the course about 4 or 5 years ago and really enjoyed it.

The International Wine Center in NY, which is headed by Mary Ewing Mulligan (co-author of the "Wine for Dummies" series), offers a beginning course, as well as certificate courses that are necessary steps along the way for the elusive Master of Wine diploma. Give them a ring and they'll send you whatever info you need.

For other options, try Peter Kump, New School University, the Italian Culinary Institute or the Learning Annex, depending on the time you can devote -- and your pocketbook.

Cheers,
