I'm going over to a friend's house on Saturday to spend the afternoon with them. I want to bring a nice bottle or two of wine to sip on while we talk. We are refined and elegant people and would enjoy trying a couple of different things. What do you suggest?

Thanks.

Hi Pat, and welcome to the Wine Board. You did not give a preference for red or white, so will just guess on red. Columbia Crest Grand Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Merlot are hard to disagree with.

Since you're a local, I'd suggest going to Surdyk's downtown or Haskel's (The people at the Bloomington store off of Normandale have always seemed polite and knowlegable to me.) and have a few sips of the bottles that they've got open for tasting when you come in. Then use your reactions to these wines to choose something that you'll realy like.

Thank you for the help. I will look into Haskel's. Innkeeper, I was actually trying to find one red AND one white wine. I am personally partial to white, but would like to try both (although maybe not right after one another :-). If there are any more suggestions, feel free.

Thanks,
Luciano

OK Luciano, if you can't find something you like at the tasting table, look for Cave De Lugny, "Les Charmes", Macon Lugny, Chardonnay. Despite its rather long name, this is a very widely available easy drinker that sells for around the same price as the Columbia Crest Grand Estates ($10 or less).
