Hello all,
I am a college student new to wines in general. I bought a couple books at the local book store on wine and read up on the diffrent types of wine and so forth. I was doing some searches on the internet and came upon this wonderful message board. I have to say I have learned quite a bit from just reading the conversations on this web board, I am impressed with the helpful people here.
So that being said, I tried out a couple wines this Thanksgiving's turkey dinner. I bought a GD 2002 Nouveau and a 2000 Schmitt Sohne Piesporter Goldtropfchen riesling kabinett. I have to say I found the Nouveau to be a little thin and acidic compared to a Penfold's Shiraz I tasted that same day. It was my first experience with the wine so, I really don't have anything to compare it to.
The riesling on the other hand was great, it was very light and went well with the turkey. I was suprised that the alcohol content on the wine was just 7%. Has anyone else had experience with this wine? I payed $15 for it. I think I might have payed a little too much, but I enjoyed it none the less. I think my next wine that I want to try is a Finger Lakes riesling. Perhaps another MSR riesling if you guys could guide me to one =) Anyone have any other recommedations on some less expensive (under $15) rieslings?

Hi there P'cola Pepper and welcome to the board. Sorry you didn't see my post before Thanksgiving about the sorry 2002 Noveau. Another terrible heist foisted on the Ameroican wine scene by the Frenchies. The SS reislings have always been held in high
esteem and for other good wines go to the Best Buy/Steal Deal thread, Go back 100 days and you'll find all kinds of goodies in your price range. Welcome again and visit and comment often. WW

More suggestions of Rieslings if you can find them:
Leitz Drachenstein Riesling Kabinett or Spatlese (from the Rheingau region)--a bargain at usually $12 or less per bottle
Wehlener Sonnenuhr (from the Mosel region)
Urziger Wurzgarten (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)

You should be able to find some Finger Lakes Riesling in Pensacola--look for Glenora, Hermann Wiemer, Chateau Lafayette Reneau. I believe one of those might show up in FL.
