how do you know which wines to drink chilled or room temp?? for x-mass i recieved a bottle of Carmignano, how would it be served?

Hi Hecdel, and welcome to the Wine Board. Your wine is a blend of sangiovese, canaiolo, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc. It should be served at between 60 & 65 degrees F. If your home is heated to 70 degrees, put it in the fridge for ten or fifteen minutes.

My opinion? I agree with bringing temp down, but I would also have some cheese and bread handy.
I have trouble drinking wine without food. I may be alone in this, but I love snacking on cheese and bread when drinking wine.

but my next question is- how do you know which wines to drink chilled and which ones to drink at room temp? or do they all get served at about 60 to 65 degrees?

First off none of this is chisled into concrete. Medium to full bodied reds (that over 12% alcohol as a rule of thumb) should be served like yours. Light bodied reds such as Beaujolais and Bardolino should be at 60 degrees or lower. White table wines should be served at 55 degrees. Sparkling wines are best at 45-50 degrees. Many if not most dessert wines (high in alcohol and fortified with spirits) are best at 35-40 degrees.
