Welcome to the board CJ. Suggest you ask your friend what she's serving for dinner: entree and side dishes, and particular spices or flavorings that will be used. Then take that information to your local wine merchant, give him a price range to work with, and ask him for a wine recommendation. Plan on one 750 ml bottle serving two people.

she said she is getting ready for christmas,as she is cooking for her family. so it would be turkey and sweet wine red or white

Since you folks get plenty of wine from Oz recommed a Sparkling Shiraz for the red, and any sparkling white you can afford. For the white ask for Extra Dry. I'm not funning you; that is the term for an "off dry" sparkling wine.

A Beaujolais-Village or Beaujolais Cru makes a pretty good pairing for turkey. While not a "sweet" wine, it is usually fruity and light to medium-bodied so you might enjoy it--especially with food. Sainstsbury Garnet Pinot Noir is another choice you might like.

Another medium bodied slightly sweet red is Pinot Noir. Try the Robert Mondavi, if you can get it.

You could also try a Lambrusco. It's a slightly fizzy, sweet red wine from Italy.
