I enjoy drinking a nice Cab with my meals, especially with something substantial like a ribeye. I don't have much experience drinking Bordeaux with meals. Is Bordeaux better alone or with meals? I know it's a general question. Just want to get some feed backs. Thanks.

Hi Mike, and welcome to the Wine Board. Almost all Bordeaux wines are blends. Those coming from the West Bank of the Garonne river are predomenatly Cabernet Sauvignon. Look from those from Medoc and its sub-appellations, or negociant wines that mention Medoc or say "Cabernet Sauvignon" on the label.

The red Bordeaux wines should match up with the same type of meals as Cabs in general--beef, roast veal, possibly lamb. If you are so fortunate as to have a good vintage of one of the top growths, you might want to savor it by itself to get the full impact.

Hello CMike,

Even though you are going to be drinking Cab (left bank) from Bordeaux you will notice a difference between them and California.

I would definately drink them with food for they are more "earthy" than the "fruit foward" wines you are used to.

Another thing that is worth mentioning is that because Bordeaux is a blend (always will be) you should see a significant price difference between them and the American Meritage. The Meritage will have the same grapes in it just a different style and sometimes 3x the price.

Explore Bordeaux. I think you will enjoy it.
