I am as new as they get and was turned on to wine at a tasting a friend of mine took me to. This was in a different state so I can't order the ones I liked but know they were red and semi-sweet and chilled. I seem to like chilled at this stage of the game but am clueless at my local liquor store which seems adequatley stocked. Could I get a recommendation on a fairly popular/widespread wine of this type that might be in my local shop.

redforme, welcome to the Board. Could be an Italian Prosecco (pronounced 'pro-SAY-co')wine that you had. Should be able to find one in a wine shop in your area for $15 - 20. cp

Because your handle suggests you prefer red wine, that might be what you are looking for. The most common sweet Italian red is Lambrusco. It comes in good grades and not so good grades. The most commonly found Lambrusco is Riunite. It can be found anywhere wine is sold.
