A teacher friend asked me this and I don't know the answer. In NJ it is permissable to BYOB to restaurants that do not have a liquor license. I've only ever taken a bottle to decent dining places. Could you conceivably take a bottle anywhere? Like to Pizza Hut or MacDonald's?

Just because the state allows you to take wine to places without liquor licenses, that doesn't mean that all proprietors will let you. Always ask first. Also ask it there is a corkage charge. Whether there is a charge or not, if they provide setups, you should leave an appropriate tip.

I agree that fast food joints are unlikely to allow you to bring your bottle, but who knows. This brings up an interesting point: what would you bring?
For me, I'm thinking a white such as a riesling might do the trick better than a red - all those sauces and cheese.

Teach....grab a bottle of Bogle Petite Sirah and wash down them Big Macs and Fries. WW
