I have been to Paris, France the past few years and while not an experienced wine drinker, I do LOVE the bordeaux wines from France. I am trying to find an American equivalent to those wines. Could you point me in a general direction of the type(s) I could try here in America? Thank you so much.

Try Cabernets, Merlots or even closer on the mark is something called Meritage.
Generally you will find US wines to be fruitier and less earthy than those from the old world. Enjoy the comparison.

In a local restaurant the other night I ordered, and enjoyed a great deal, Louis Martini 1996 North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon. Amazingly (it was in a casino) the restaurant price was only $12 the bottle...I doubt you'll find that kind of restaurant price anywhere else in the country. I mention it because I remember thinking it very much like a regional Bordeaux red.
