Found a bottle of Chateauneuf-du-pape in my parents cabinet. 1988 Patriarche Pere et Fils. It also says Cuvee Chanoine Picard. Thanks for the help!

Hi Cora, and welcome to the Wine Board. Provided it was stored all right, it should be fantastic. Would serve it with an extravagently sauced lamb dish.

Hi cora99 and welcome to the board. What kind of cabinet? A temperature controlled cabinet or a kitchen cabinet?Pray for the former.winoweenie

No, just in a regular cabinet. From what I gather from the replies, the wine isn't really worth anything. Is that why I cannot find it on any database? Oh, and thank you all for the quick responses.

It may be a total disaster. If the bottle was lying down, and temperature extremes were not too severe, it could be quite good. Regardless, unless the fluid is leaking through the cork, would give it a shot. If you are entertaining at the time you open it, you may want to have something in reserve. If a back up Chateauneuf-du-Pape is too costly, you might go for a nice Cotes-du-Rhone for around $10.00.

IK, I think you miss cora's point: once again, a person thinks there is money to be made in old wine.

We need to keep saying it: drink wine—invest in the stock market.

Cora99, Foodie just gave you the definative answer. Neophytes all seem to think ALL old wines are born equal. `Taint so girl. Provenance is the 1st thing a collector looks for. A cabinet don`t qualify. Open the bottle, and hope you have a pleasant experience. Good luck. winoweenie If you go to the Rhone thread you`ll find a posting I made on a 79 Vieux Telegraph, one of CdP finest, that has been in my cellar since release. It`s about gone.`Nuff said.WW
