Hi Mc and welcome to the Wine Board. This is the flagship wine of the Ornellaia winery in the Bolgheri DOC in Central Tuscany. It is owned by Lodovico Antinori. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese. It sells for around $100 U.S., so methinks someone paid too much for it, even considering the exchange rate. I'm guessing that it will drink best between 2006 and '08.

Thanks a a lot!!! We always seem to pay to much for our wines here in Quebec...especially comparitive to the rest of Canada. Would you know anything about Wolblass?? I also got a bottle, Black Label 1997...I think the cepage is Cabernet, merlot, shiraz.. I have had that one for 2 years now. Someone told me to drink it in 2007, is that accurate??

I'm not so sure the Black Label needs ten years. It should be starting to open now and drinking well up to '06 or '07.

Thanks again... I am sure glad I joined this wine forum!!!

Glad to have you here. Where in Quebec are you located?

Carl, I think either Mondavi or Beringer-Blass owns Ornellaia now....good juice (if you get it for free) but wildly overpriced and not particularly Italian.

If you find yourself in Chicago you should treat yourself to Sams Wine & Liquors. They are the largest, independent retailer in the US and their wine selection is incredible!
