Well, here it goes, my first review of a wine on this great site. I aquired it on my wine tour of Oregon during my honeymoon. I decided to chill it today to celebrate my wife's first week of work. We used our new crystal wine glasses we got for our wedding.
The half-bottle of 1998 of Late Harvest De Chaunac, made by the Girardet winery of the Umqua Valley appellation of Oregon was served chilled. It had a light, sweet smell with a tinge of alcohol scent. The first drinks were sweet, and had a sweet/tart cherry flavor similar to choke cherry jelly. The middle of the glass, as it warmed up had a less pleasurable taste. Once it warmed up a little more, the exit was very smooth and had the sweet/tart berry flavor that the bottle's label promised.
I think I served the wine a bit too cold. I enjoyed it very much and found it to be a very good dessert wine.

Barnesy, you learned, I hope, another lesson.
Most Americans consume their wine too cold. Unless it is sparkling wine, white wine is best when served at from 55 to 60 degrees--in my humble opinion.
Even though DeChaunac is red, the fact that it is a dessert wine, I believe, places it in this category. It was red, wasn't it?
