Love wine...but want to start learing about what is good...what to stay away from and how to tell good from bad. What years are good and what aren't...when to open a bottle and when not to...i guess im looking for some do's and dont's as well...i love red wine so i guess im mostly asking about all this in regard to the world of red wine. Thanks.

Whoa how does one sum all that up in one post. To start I would like to say welcome to the board. I am also semi-new to this whole thing but Ill see what i can do to help. First off I might just get a little book, piece of paper, notebook, whatever and write down what wines you like and dont like. Start with the $9-$15 wines from different regions and write down what you think about each. Then you can look back to see which ones youve liked and not liked. The part of learning whats good and not will come with time as you try different wines at different price ranges. As far as picking good years here is a vintage chart that I find usefull from time to time and hope others have good suggestions for you as well.
