- jbh - 04-18-2003 I am hosting a party and have been offered the following wines. Are they of a high quality? Piedmont Fallegro Favorita 2001 Piedmont Gavi di Gavi 2001 Tuscany Chianti Classico 2000 Tuscany Colli Sneesi "Poggio al Vento" 2001 Tuscany Chianti Giorgio Primo 1999 Tuscany Ser Gervasio Merlot 1997 - sgutte - 04-19-2003 Well, JBH, I think some, if not most of these are good wines, but you may want repost the question with a bit more information. Not on all of them you actually wrote the specific wine. Let me explain: Tuscany and Piedmont are each very large regions in Italy that grow wine. Chianti is one of the regions in Tuscany and also a type of wine and Chianti Classico is a sub-region of Chianti with a more "controlled" type of wine (and supposedly and higher qulity). There are dozens of Chianti Classico and a variety of quality. Gavi di Gavi again is a type of wine that many wineries make and quality can vary. The ones I could identify: #1 Fallegro Favorita 2001 - a white wine, I think from a winery called "Gianni Gagliardo" #5 Tuscany Chianti Giorgio Primo 1999 - Excellent wine Sorry I couldn't be of more help. - winoweenie - 04-19-2003 Hi JBH and welcome to the board. O.K. Boto- Baby we knows youse be back. Answer this newbies question from one of the most lovely lakes and settings on earth. Did I say you sound all rester?WW - Botafogo - 04-19-2003 The short answer is they are all sound well made wines. My particular POV is that you can ALWAYS save money by getting out of Piemonte and Toscana. You say you were "offered" these wines....does that mean to buy or is someone donating them? Piedmont Fallegro Favorita 2001 Not familiar with this producer but Favorita is a fun, easy to drink white. Piedmont Gavi di Gavi 2001 there are hundreds of producers of Gavi so I can't comment on this Tuscany Chianti Classico 2000 There are THOUSANDS of Chianti producers so I have no Idea here either.... Tuscany Colli Sneesi "Poggio al Vento" 2001 "the hills of sneezes", that's good. But actually this is a pretty good producer of Chianti Colle Senesi Tuscany Chianti Giorgio Primo 1999 VERY Modern, usually overpriced Tuscany Ser Gervasio Merlot 1997 Merlot does not register with my conciousness (we don't sell it or drink it) so I don't know here either. IF you have a choice, try some nice Rosso Conero or Rosso Piceno from the Marche instead of the Tuscan stuff and you can afford more truffles and some good prosciuto... Roberto |
