I must admit to knowing nothing about wines, other then I enjoy most of them

I have a special occasion coming up and would like to get something special for it. I am looking for a sweet red, but do not even know where to begin. I am looking to spend $20-40. Can someone please give me some recomendations?

Thanks!

Frosty

Sweet reds usually means Port, not what you are looking for I'm sure.

Um... Pretend you are talking to a "know nothing" about wines. What is Port, and why wouldnt I be looking for it?

Thanks!

Hi frostfire and welcome to the board. Port is a wine thar's been fortified with brandy
before the fermentation process (converting sugar to alcohol) has been completed so it retains residual sugar. They are normally drunk as dessert wines. The normal red wines are made so all of the sugar is converted, thus most table wines are dry, and all of the better wines are made in this manner. Some of the wines you might enjoy are the Italian Lambruscos that retain some sugar. Start there and when you get tired of them come back and we'll do the next two-step. WW
