- liberty2000 - 01-25-2002 I was wondering if someone could refer me to a champagne equal to Moet but less expensive? - Bucko - 01-25-2002 Not without more data. Moet makes a wide range of Champagnes in various price classes. - liberty2000 - 01-27-2002 OOPS! I guess that would help to answer my question. I usually drink Moet White star. - Innkeeper - 01-27-2002 That is an Extra Dry Champagne meaning, and I'm not kidding, slightly off dry or a little sweet. I find that Freixenet Cordon Negro, Extra Dry, Cava hard to distinguish from Moet White Star at one third the price. - Bucko - 01-27-2002 I'll second IK -- it is an incredible value IMHO. - liberty2000 - 01-27-2002 Thank you Inkeeper i will go out right now and get it. - lizardbrains - 01-28-2002 Liberty, Did you buy it? How much did it cost? I would love to find a good & inexpensive champagne! Someday... I will be rich... and I'll be able to buy anything I want!!!!! ...Someday... - Bucko - 01-28-2002 My note: NV Freixenet, Cava, Brut, Cordon Negro, Spain, $9. A blend of three Spanish grapes, Macabeo, Xarel-lo, and Parellada. Very aromatic, with a fine to medium bead. Delicately sweet with plenty of acidity, this terrific value sparkler offers lovely fruit and a long, doughy finish. 85/90. - Innkeeper - 01-28-2002 I have found that the Brut is Super Brut, that is drier than dry. I have found that the Extra Dry is more other producer's Brut. Same price. - Kcwhippet - 01-28-2002 As an alternative to the Freixenet, how about the Segura Viudas? That's generally been our choice for an inexpensive cava. - liberty2000 - 02-02-2002 LizardBrains -Yes I purchased it for $10.00 and yes it does taste like "Moet". This Champagne will definitely be on the top of my list. - Tannin - 02-03-2002 If you can find the Seaview Brut from the Aussies, thats a great value at 10 bucks. Nice nutty, appley nose, fine bubbles, crisp finish... very much a crowd pleaser, and will fool the snobs! |
