I was wondering if someone could refer me
to a champagne equal to Moet but less
expensive?

- Bucko - 01-25-2002

Not without more data. Moet makes a wide range of Champagnes in various price classes.

OOPS! I guess that would help to answer my question.

I usually drink Moet White star.

That is an Extra Dry Champagne meaning, and I'm not kidding, slightly off dry or a little sweet. I find that Freixenet Cordon Negro, Extra Dry, Cava hard to distinguish from Moet White Star at one third the price.

I'll second IK -- it is an incredible value IMHO.

Thank you Inkeeper i will go out right now and get it.

Liberty, Did you buy it? How much did it cost?

I would love to find a good & inexpensive champagne!

Someday... I will be rich... and I'll be able to buy anything I want!!!!! ...Someday...

My note:

NV Freixenet, Cava, Brut, Cordon Negro, Spain, $9. A blend of three Spanish grapes, Macabeo, Xarel-lo, and Parellada. Very aromatic, with a fine to medium bead. Delicately sweet with plenty of acidity, this terrific value sparkler offers lovely fruit and a long, doughy finish. 85/90.

I have found that the Brut is Super Brut, that is drier than dry. I have found that the Extra Dry is more other producer's Brut. Same price.

As an alternative to the Freixenet, how about the Segura Viudas? That's generally been our choice for an inexpensive cava.

LizardBrains -Yes I purchased it for $10.00
and yes it does taste like "Moet".
This Champagne will definitely be on the top of my list.

If you can find the Seaview Brut from the Aussies, thats a great value at 10 bucks. Nice nutty, appley nose, fine bubbles, crisp finish... very much a crowd pleaser, and will fool the snobs!
