Hello everyone. I am new to this website, I stumbled on to it by accident and I am glad I did. I don't know much about wine, but I have a great interest in learning. I really don't know where to start in educating myself. So any help would greatly be appreciated. I do have one question right off the top can you chill unopened white wine and for those wines you have opened red or white can you refrigerate them.

Hi Smile, and welcome to the Wine Board. Andrea Immer Robinson's "Great Wine Made Simple" is a great introduction to wine and wine drinking. It is available in p.b. and even used.

Recommend getting a half bottle (375 ml) of a wine you like, and keep the bottle. When you have unfinished wine keep it in the half bottle, preferably filled to the rim. The idea is to keep oxygen away from the wine, even overnight. Both red and white wine can be kept in the fridge this way for a day or two at most. Take red wine out about 45 minutes before using to let it warm up a little.

Following IK suggestion, I have been using a 10 oz glass club soda bottle for leftovers (when I have any). Seems to work fairly well albeit with a plastic screw top. I havent found a 375 size bottle around here so I made do with what I could find. I'll have to look for this book, also got great info in the "wine for dummies" books at my local library. WP

It's been my experience that some wines last three or four days recorked and refrigerated before they deteriorate. I even had a German Riesling spatlese (late harvested grapes) that lasted a full week! But most wines are best the first or second day after opening.

i found 2 books by andrea immer - "great wines made simple" one in red and one with a vineyard background. just wondering which one should i buy or are they the same just with different cover. i noticed that the red one was published in 2000 the green one was 2005. i don't know anything about wine and i want to learn more about it. any information would be helpful.
more power to the wine board!!!!!!!!!!

Seems to me the book published in 2005 would have more up to date info than the 2000 one.
