My Doctor has advice me to start drinking red wine,which I know nothing about.I have been told that red wine is bitter,is this true? Is there any red wine that is sweet or simi sweet?

Hi Cwahr, and welcome to the Wine Board. There is a difference between "tastes sweet" and "is sweet." In the latter category are Lambrusco from Italy, as well as some of the offerings from the local wineries in your area. Most producers from east of the Rockies are small and have to appeal to a wide range of customer tastes, so produce wines across the dry-sweet spectrum.
In the "tastes sweet" category almost any fresh fruity red will work. There is a modicum of evidence that wines made from pinot noir or gamay may be better for your health. Gamay is what goes into Beaujolais. Look for '02 (and soon '03) Beaujolais Villages. Don't get the '03 Nouveau Beaujolais as Noveau is made in such a way as to be very short lived. The '03 is starting to fade.
