Hi; Im new to this. On the radio this weekend a wine buff just returned from France and was talking about a french wine from the southern rhone district called LIRAC. He claimed that it was as good as Chateau Neuf du Pape, but at half the price. As I like Chateau Neuf and other Cote du Rhones I was wondering if anybody has some knowledge of this wine, and their opinion.

Thank you,
Stan

I have not had many, similar to Cotes du Rhone, and not nearly as good as CdP IMHO. It is a nice region to seek out value sippers.

Lirac is good for its value/price ratio; comparing it with Chateauneuf du Papes is an exercise in futility. Once again, wine is subjective.

Lirac is a large appellation on the right bank of the southern Rhone. I find the wines to be soft and fruity and much lighter than the wines of CDP...nice values can be found but no match for CDP IMHO.

Good choice for those who prefer fruitier (less dry seeming) wines.
