My friend is turning 21 in a week. I would like to buy her a nice wine but I don't have much knowledge of wine. My other problem is, I don't really know her preferences for wine. All I know is she prefers red over white. Can anyone help me to choose a red wine, for around $50, that is well-liked by most. Thank You.

Welcome to the board Tdim. If you're a member of Costco, you can find numerous reds there at that price point, including some French (Bordeaux and Burgundy) and California. I saw the Pine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley there yesterday for about $56.

I'm not sure what state you live in but there are many great wines at $50 and under. Most states have a large wine and spirits retail store that carry many different selections.
I'm assuming your friend does not drink wine all the time considering he or she is just turning 21. A great wine for someone just becoming interested, or those that have drank wine forever is Chalone Pinot Noir, it retails for about $36. If you want to pick up a bottle of wine to drink with friends they make a less expensive one called Echelon Pinot Noir, it is around $15 if I remember correctly.
I hope your friend has a wonderful birthday!
