Do you have any really good suggestion regarding the purchase of a good wine book for beginners?

I really like Oz Clarke's "The Essential Wine Book." I found it engaging and informative...
it doesn't have all the information some bigger books have, but is a great starter.

Thank you very much VouvrayHead. I will look into it. I did purchase the Wines for dummies and I like it. However I wanted to know about a non-dummie kind of book.

Don't knock the "Dummies" books. I refer to "Italian Wine for Dummies" all the time. Also recommend Andrea Immer's "Great Wine Made Simple." She walks you through actual tastings with a wide variety of wines, and gives tips on what to expect inside almost any given bottle.

"Windows of on the World Complete Wine Course" by Kevin Zraly and "The Wine Bible" by Karen MacNeil are two of my favorite books.

My first book was "The Wine Bible" By Karen McNeil. Very detailed and informative. Tells about wines form all over the world and the history and traditions of them. Very detailed.

ditto on the Wine Bible but Immer's is also great, perhaps a bit more simplied where as the bible is about 1000 pages.

Also love the Wine Atlas from Jancis Robinson and Hugh Johnson.

I just looked at the latest version of Kevin Zraly's Windows on the World wine book for beginners.

To me, it is among the best of them. It is not cutesy, does not try to be hip, and imparts volumes of information in a compact, intelligent, readable form.

The best part: I found only two errors in it--and one of them was simply an editing snafu.

As an author, I know how many errors get by me and the editor, and two is low good number...

Wow!! Thanks a lot for all the information. I will look into all of them. Once again, Thank you!
