I am just learning about wines. Can you help me out in this area. I would like to learn as much as possible. I do know that I tend to like a sweety dessert type wine. Could you tell me of some that I can try.
Thank you

Those are the kinds of wines my wife likes, so I have to find sweet wines that we can share since I am not the biggest fan of sweet. Leibfraumilch is a german type of wine that is decently easy to find and is an easy drinking sweet thats not insanely sweet like those pesky white zins. Also, look for sweet to off-sweet reislings.

Agree with Barnsey, except would pass on the the Leibfraumilch. American Riesling is more economical than imported. Avoid, for now, labels that say "Dry Riesling." White Zinfandel is OK for starters too. Look for bottles with a bluish hue rather than an orangey one.

Dessert wines, even domestic ones, tend to be very expensive. You pay as much for a half bottle (375 ml) than you pay for a full bottle of decent table wine. If you want a dessert wine for dessert, try Bonny Doon Vineyard, Muscat, Vin De Glaciere. It runs around $16.00 for a 375 ml bottle, but is our favorite dessert wine right now, served at near freezing temperatures.

I second that motion. I'm not particularly a fan of sweet wine, but the Bonny Doon is deelish -- very peary and flavorful, not just a lot of sugar.
