I am new at wines but found one at a restaurant which was on their house wine list. Was wondering if it was possible to find that same wine availabel to the public. It was a White Zinfandel wine called Copperidge. I am not a heavy drinker but this wine could be the one class of wine a day my doctor suggested I take for my health. It was so ,tastey, made the meal complete. Have any way to track it down?

If I'm not mistaken, it's a restaurant-only wine produced by E & J Gallo. I don't think it's sold retail. Instead, look for White Zinfandels from Beringer Vineyard and Buehler Vineyard. They've been recommended on this board in the past.

Also, welcome to the Wine Board!

Unfortunately Dananne is right...this is a restaurant only wine.

As for health it probably isn't going to help you with anything but relaxing. What the doctor is referring to is red wine because there are chemicals in the skins of the grapes that are beneficial.

When they make White Zinfandel there is so little skin used that there really isn't any health benefits.

(Wineboard folks - don't correct me about my terminology here....just easier for novice to understand!)

I have heard that cooking with grapeseed oil or drinking purple grape juice will give the same health benefits as drinking red wine.

Who wants to do that?

I want to do that, at least the cooking part. I've been using grapeseed oil for years now when I'm cooking. It has a much higher smoke point than most other oils, which means I can cook at higher temps without having the oil smoke up or getting a burnt taste in the dish. Interestingly, I've found I tend to use less than if I were using canola or olive oils. I also like the little hint of nuttiness it gives.

As for the red grape juice - well I drink it once in a while just because I like it, but it doesn't have quite as much of the health benefits of red wine no matter what Larry King says.
